Trunk Sewer Cleaning

Trunk Sewer CleaningDMR specializes in one of the toughest jobs around - cleaning large diameter trunk sewers. These pipes start at around 1200mm (48 inches) in diameter. As you might imagine cleaning these larger pipes is not only difficult, it requires specialized equipment, talented technicians, and the right plan.

We recently completed trunk sewer cleaning projects in Kingston, Peterborough and the City of Toronto. Each of the trunk lines was several kilometers in length, and in each we pulled out over 600 tonnes of debris (dry measure - over twice that if wet).

Using special techniques we capture the debris in tanks, return the water mixed with the debris to the sewer and take the tanks filled with de-watered debris to the landfill site. Often the debris will pass Regulation 309 Leachate Extraction Tests allowing for disposal at a reduced rate. This can provide the infrastructure owners a substantial savings over traditional cleaning techniques.

Through personal experience we can debunk that the belief that trunk sewers are self cleaning. All the trunk sewers we have cleaned are 25% to 80% full of debris - robbing your system of vital capacity and contributing to sewage overflows and environmental degradation. They are often neglected because of the myth they are self cleaning, the belief they are too hard to access, or simply that the everyone thinks the job is too tough for anyone to take it on.

If you have trunk sewers and would like some assistance on how to proceed - please give us a call. If you would like to learn more about this interesting area of work, read our recent article on trunk sewer cleaning here.
